Merton College, Oxford will host The Organ in England: Its Music, Technology, and Role through the Second Millennium, April 10-13, 2008. The conference will focus on the organ and its music in the 17th and 18th centuries, centering around "The Organ in Stuart and Georgian England: its Role through Change to the Handel Commemoration." http://www.bios.org.uk/

English Cathedral Music: The Long Nineteenth Century to the Present, RMA Study Day, 9 July 2008, University of Durham. This study day explores the English cathedral music tradition from the long nineteenth century to the present, especially its qualities as a musical tradition and its place in English, Commonwealth, and religious identity.http://www.dur.ac.uk/john-bede.pauley/cathedralmusic.htm

Institutes of Musical Research and English Studies, School of Advanced Study, University of London. The Music and English Departments of the Open University in association with the OU Literature and Music Research Group. The Handel Institute. The Purcell Society. This conference will be one of the concluding events in the year marking the anniversaries of Henry Purcell's birth (1658 or 1659) and Handel's death (1759). Proposals for papers are now invited. Papers should be of 20 minutes duration, and the proposal should be presented as an abstract of not more than 250 words. Proposals for thematic round-table sessions will also be considered. Proposals should be submitted by 30 October 2008, and should be sent to valerie.james_at_sas.ac.uk. Please include your name, contact details and (if applicable) your affiliation within your proposal.
