Those of you staying on campus will be at the Goodwin-Kirk residence hall (1215 30th St.). Rooms are organized as suites for two: there is a common area, and two semi-private sleeping areas (i.e., you do not have doors to close, but walls provide privacy) with single beds. There are also no en suite toilets or baths in G-K; typically, there is a shared bathroom for the floor or wing, and these do have dividers and/or curtains for the showers. In short: these are not as swank as the dorms at either St. Michael’s or York. On the plus side, it’s very, very cheap: doubles will run you $28 per person per night; a single room will be $38 per night.
We have a block of 15 rooms reserved at the Hampton Inn at the Des Moines Airport (5001 Fleur Drive) at $79 for a double. (This also includes a fairly decent breakfast buffet.) The airport and hotels near it are about 4-5 miles from the Drake campus, so you’ll either need to have a car, take a cab, or make arrangements with the local arrangements committee to be taken to campus. (We will have a limited number of student volunteers who should be able to drive people to and from the Hampton or hotels close by once or twice a day, depending on availability.) If making a reservation, please make sure to indicate you’re with NABMSA to get the discount.

Because of conflicts with reservations from Drake’s athletic department, I was not able to secure a block of rooms at the Holiday Inn Express immediately adjacent to the Drake campus (1140 24th St.). You are, however, more than welcome to see if you can secure a room there on your own; rates will probably be about $90 per night for a double. This hotel is two blocks from the Drake Fine Arts Center.

In addition to these, I have included a few other options for you to consider based on your taste and/or budget. Prices provided are approximate for doubles. If you have questions about other accommodation options, such as bed and breakfasts or specific motel franchises, please contact Eric Saylor (Eric.Saylor@drake.edu). Note that there are some good deals available in the downtown hotels.

The Butler House on Grand (4507 Grand Ave., Des Moines; 515-255-4096). This is a gorgeous, 7-room Tudor-style mansion located just across from the Des Moines Art Center--it's about a 7-10 minute drive from Drake. Fantastic reputation. Rooms range from $105-$190. http://www.butlerhouseongrand.com/
The 1900 Inn (1033 25th St., Des Moines; 515-277-0149). This is a smaller B&B, but it is three blocks away from the Drake Fine Arts Center--a very easy walk. I know at least one of the rooms is taken right now; the other two are available at $115 and $130 per night. http://the1900inn.com/index.html
